How we use AI
We would rather say this plainly than leave you guessing. Quebec's Law 25 also requires disclosure wherever a decision about a person is made by automated processing.
An AI assistant has administrative access to this store
This is the part most sites would not tell you, so we will start with it.
This store was built, and is maintained, with the help of an AI assistant connected directly to our Shopify admin. That connection currently holds permissions to read and write products, pages, themes, discounts, inventory and shipping — and also to read orders and read and modify customer records.
In plain terms: if you submit a quote request, the name, email, phone number, delivery address and parts list attached to it sit inside a system an AI assistant can be asked to read.
How that access is actually used:
- A person directs every action. The assistant does not run on its own, does not watch the store, and does nothing unprompted. It acts when a human asks it to and the result is reviewed.
- It is used for building and running the catalogue — importing products, writing the site's code, fixing the storefront, and drafting pages like this one.
- We do not feed customer records or quote requests into it for analysis, profiling, scoring or marketing.
- Information from this store is not used to train AI models. The assistant is used under commercial terms that exclude training on our data.
We are telling you this because the permission exists, not because we have used it on your information. If you would rather your details were not held in a system with this connection, tell us and we will take your enquiry by phone instead.
Shopify's own apps
Two Shopify-published apps are connected to this store: the AI assistant connector described above, and Shopify's Messaging app. Both can read customer and order information. No third-party apps are installed.
No decision about you is automated
Every trade account application and every quote is read by a person. Nothing scores you, ranks you, or sets your pricing automatically. Prices are quoted by hand. If you were declined and want to know why, ask and a person will tell you.
Where AI is used
- Building this site. AI coding assistance wrote much of this site's code, migrated the product catalogue from our previous system, and drafted these policies. A person reviewed the work, and the legal pages still require review by a lawyer.
- Catalogue data. Product names, codes and options come from our own records. Where AI helped reformat or tidy that data, the underlying facts are ours.
Where AI is not used
- The part finder is not AI. It is ordinary text matching over product names, codes and tags, run by Shopify's built-in search. There is no model behind it. An earlier version of this site badged it "AI search", which was inaccurate, so it was renamed.
- We do not use AI to set or vary your prices.
- We do not use AI to decide whether to accept your order.
- There is no chatbot. When you contact us, a person answers.
If this changes
If we introduce anything that makes an automated decision affecting you, we will say so here before switching it on, explain the main factors it uses, and give you a way to ask for a human review. If the assistant's access to customer information is removed or widened, this page changes too.
